No I’ve wanted to do all sort’s of things, at school I thought being an engineer just meant getting really good at fixing things. I started wanted to be an engineer when I found out it meant I could make cooler stuff.

I started wanting to be an engineer as soon as I realised someone actually has to design almost everything around us (I was 16 before I thought about this). Take ice-creams. Someone has to decide the shape they’ll make it, then build a machine to make it that shape. You have to melt the chocolate before you can put it on, then it has to harden quickly. Each ice-cream has to match, without all the sprinkles on one and none on the next. Then if the machine gets blocked up someone has to fix it. Someone needs to make sure the right ingredients are ordered and research how to make the ice-cream taste even better each year.

These are all engineering jobs and I suddenly realised how many engineering jobs there must be out there and how varied they must be.
