I'm an Electronics Engineer, an aunt to a two- year old and a dancer living in London
I’ll try to keep it brief 🙂
I was born in South India in a beautiful coastal town- – went to University in Mumbai. My parents were both Science graduates and my brother is an Engineer as well so Engineering was kind of a natural choice.
My love affair with Electronics was more by design. This is how it all began – because of some personal reasons I missed school when we had the very first sessions of the topic so I felt left behind when i went back. I took that as a challenge- spent several days and evenings on the topic – and glad (and proud) to say, i finished top of the school in Physics in the board exams that year!
Electronics is very vast – from Quantum mechanics to health monitors to satellites, it takes various shapes and forms and I find that quite fascinating.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my baby niece – its a pleasure watching her grow and being curious. I enjoy cycling and walking in the countryside and I’m very passionate about everything and ‘green and eco-friendly’.
I work as an Engineer in the consultancy department of a Satellite Operator and Services Provider
As an Engineer in a consultancy department I’m close to engineering and commercial halves of the business. The projects that I have been involved in so far have included, for example, proof-of-concept implementation of satellite based signal augmentation system, R&D projects and commercialization of product developed in-house. I get to travel quite often as part of work which is always exciting.
For example, in the case of a typical commercial project, we gather information about the user needs, the competition in the region and/or country, roadmap of the local/regional governments, formulate our product/service introduction strategy with the help of the sales/business development departments and provide an introductory/ pilot service initially to gather feedback. Based on the feedback and commercial partnerships gained along the process, the full product/service is formulated and handed over to commercial services department either in the company or externally.
A typical technical project would see working on purely technical concepts inputting into technical documents, standardisation bodies etc.
My Typical Day: no two days are the same.
My typical day at work would be preparing documents that need to be submitted to the various bodies that fund the projects. Depending on the project, these could be technical descriptions of a system or a more general work progress update.
All the projects come with regular meetings – internal , with project partners, and with the funding agency representatives. In these meetings we are required to check/update the progress of the work in relation to what was proposed at the project ‘proposal’ stage and document any risks that has been identified and also the follow-on actions required to mitigate the risks and keep the project on-track.
What I'd do with the money
Electronics design club for kids and electronics enthusiasts
I want to set-up a small club/organisation where kids and/or electronics enthusiasts can share their ideas and build their own electronics devices – cheaply and using off-the shelf components. The main motivation behind the idea is to get more kids interested in science – particularly electronics – motivate them to identify problems that they see in everyday lives and come up with solutions that can be solved with electronics and help them design and prototype their ‘solutions’ cheaply.
